A divorce does more than just formally end a relationship.  It literally redefines the structure of a family unit.  This restructuring has numerous and serious ramifications.  Many ladies will need obvious changes made to their driver’s license to reflect their name change if their maiden name was restored as part of the divorce.  Same with Social Security cards.  But most people do not even consider bank accounts, deeds, beneficiary designations for bank and retirement accounts and more.  Everyone needs a will or to update their existing will after a divorce.  This video explains some of the issues.  We always recommend for our divorce clients that before they move on to their next, they should make sure this spouse is their ex.  But we also recommend our clients get their business affairs in line with the new family structure.
